English Department Activities

English Week 2022-2023

The English Week this year featured a wide range of activities, which included writing greeting cards, movie appreciation, making badges and lunchtime karaoke. It was great to see many students came to the activities and learned English together with their teachers in a relaxing way. It seemed that most students enjoy writing greeting cards and making badges most. Let us know which activity you liked best and what activities you would like to see in the future!

English Assembly

The first week of May was the English Week and the English Assembly fell on 3rd May with Academic Quiz Games. Junior and senior student representatives of the four Houses participated in the quiz games to win honour for their house. The academic questions consisted of knowledge of many subjects including Chinese Language, Mathematics and popular culture. The competitions proved to be fierce and the student audience cheered for their own house representatives throughout the games. After the on-stage games, the student audience were invited to join in and attempt to win small gifts for themselves by answering some other general knowledge questions. All students showed their enthusiastic participation in the games.

S4 enrichment

The S4 enrichment course for this year featured two experiential activities designed to provide students with valuable insights into different industries. The first activity was a Hotel and Catering Management workshop offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education at the Haking Wong Campus. During the workshop, students were exposed to theoretical knowledge about hotel management and gained hands-on experience in room cleaning and check-in. The students also had the opportunity to interact with the course instructor and learn about the industry and its career prospects.

The second activity featured talks by successful alumni who shared their experiences working as an embalmer, media producer, and IT developer. The students listened to first-hand accounts of various industries and how the alumni prepared for their future while they were still in secondary school. The inspiring success stories of the alumni served as a great source of motivation for the students. Overall, these experiential activities provided the students with valuable insights and practical skills that will help them prepare for their future careers.

S5 Enrichment Programme

This year, our form 5 students have been learning different topics on workplace and social issues. As part of our S5 Enrichment courses, our teachers arranged a visit to an English-speaking restaurant in Yuen Long to give students a hands-on experience and to enrich their English learning experience.

The students were in for a treat as they got a chance to visit the kitchen and witness the ‘magic’ behind the catering operation. It was a precious chance for our students to learn more about the chef and waiter’s job duties. They learned how to blend mocktails, prepare salads, and set tables! It was an exhilarating experience as some of the students got to order food and serve others in English for the very first time.

The visit was an eye-opener as the students learned about the operation of the restaurant business and the importance of communication skills in the workplace. It was a fantastic opportunity to apply their English language skills in a practical setting and have fun while doing it! We hope that this exciting learning experience has inspired our students to pursue their passions and continue learning beyond the classroom.
